«OikoKoinonia» was formed in 2000 as a citizens' initiative, based on an Establishing Declaration co-signed by citizens from all regions of Greece, where is stated:

"We, the citizens who co-sign this declaration, are active members in the area of Social Development, and have taken actions in the field of fighting phenomena such as poverty and social exclusion.

We have worked under the frame of Positive actions that support social inclusion and equal participation of Rom, as stuff members of Public Services and Local Administration and as active citizens who would like to declare in an active way our solidarity towards our fellow citizens who live under conditions of complete exclusion".

In 2001, «OikoKoinonia» becomes a civil non-profit association (the legal framework under which Non-Governmental Organizations function in Greece), aiming at taking action in the field of social intervention.
